Two Individuals, One From Out of State, Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Winthrop, Maine
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency South Central Drug Task Force and the Winthrop, Maine Police Department have been investigating drug trafficking and the sale of cocaine and fentanyl from a motel in the town of Winthrop.
Three search warrants were obtained on June 18, 2025, by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. The warrants were for the motel, a storage unit in Winthrop, and another storage unit in Gardiner.
While searching the motel in Winthrop, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) agents seized 116 grams of fentanyl and 158 grams of cocaine. During the search of the Winthrop storage unit, the agents from MDEA seized an additional 143 grams of cocaine and $6980 in suspected drug proceeds.
The estimated street value of the fentanyl is $14,500. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $30,000.
MDEA agents did not seize any drugs or suspected drug proceeds at the Gardiner storage unit.
Stephen Lee Smith, age 34, of Broad Brook, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated drug trafficking, Class A. Smith’s bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Katelynn Dubois, age 32, of Winthrop, Maine, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of aggravated drug trafficking, Class A, and one count of unlawful trafficking of Schedule W Drugs, Class B. Dubois’ bail was set at $500 cash with $5000 unsecured.
Both Dubois and Smith are currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail awaiting their initial appearance in court.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
